After a deposit becomes a working mine, there are other methods for locating new reefs. Here a jack hammer team is cross-cutting into the north wall of the no. 4 tunnel at Scorpion Mine to find a new extension of the Tsavorite reef.
Once a new Tsavorite extension is discovered, tunneling begins.
Waste rock is removed by a combination of karais (large metal pans) and tractors.
Here a jackhammer team undercuts the Tsavorite-bearing reef prior to pocketing. Tsavorite is found in pockets occurring along hydrothermal channels.
